As per Alberta's OHS Act section 37, organizations are required to have a formal safety program if they have a workforce of 20 or more people that was developed in consultation with the joint health and safety committee or representative. Organizations with fewer than 20 workers still require a health and safety program but these programs can be simpler or 'less formal' and must also be developed in consultation with their health and safety representative.
