Safety Culture
The safety culture within an organization is directly linked to improving the overall safety performance. When ownership of safety takes place, workplace incidents can be considerably reduced - which is why an engaged safety culture is critical. In a joint study conducted by the Queens School of Business and the Gallup Organization, disengaged workers had 37% higher absenteeism, 49% more accidents, and 60% more errors and defects. Additionally, in organizations with low employee engagement scores, they experienced 18% lower productivity, 16% lower profitability, 37% lower job growth, and 65% lower share price over time.
Organizations that are trusted are more successful. Though trust is not something any organization can just simply buy, plan or hope for – it is an outcome. The way an organization operates, the ownership it takes for what it does, and how it does it are all key factors in building trust. This is measured as organizational culture and accountability which are critical for sustainable success.
Many organizations spend hundreds of thousands and in some case many millions of dollars crafting their strategy and/or getting advice on how to do that. Many of these same organizations spend a fraction of that same investment in gaining a realistic understanding of their current safety culture, the culture essential to turbo-charging their strategy and developing a plan for cultural change.
We encourage our clients to continually invest appropriately in understanding their organization’s safety culture, including to identify those areas that are acting as a anchor in the execution of their strategy – and after having done so, to put in place appropriate plans to transform their culture.
We help clients to further develop their culture and accountability to build trust and sustainable success.
